Okay gentlemen.....I'm having a an issue getting the machine to jog. I searched through the forum and pulle dup every post I could on this topic and nothing seem to fix my problem. I can't get my HS-1 to move at all. Nothing...nadda...zero...zilch. I've dumped the 60ipm XML file into Mach3....I found a post from Ron that stated this should set all the pin and port setting for me. Even at that I still double checked everything. Seems to be correct. I checked the port with the LPTport on my PC. All seem correct there. I just don't know what else to do. Any help you guys can send would be great.
BTW, my HS1 just came today....even though I'm having a little trouble, NOTHING can spoil my good mood!!! :-)
Thanks all, Dave

Do you think the machine is receiving any comms at all?
Is the power light on bright?
Did you disengage the emergency stop switch? (twist the big red button to the right)?
Just a few super simple things there.

Nick, I think the machine is getting comms. I can hit the cycle start and feed hold and get a response in Mach3. Also, when I hit the stop switch.
Light is on....yellow....don't know if its suppose to be green or not.
When I'm trying to jog in mach3 it shows that it should be moving......but I get no response from the machine.
I really wished I could offer you more info, but being new at this I don't really know what to say other than...well....help. I was hoping you guys would start asking me questions and that would get me pointed in the right direction as I really dont' know what to do.....
Also, the parallel cable is plugged into port 1 on the machine. In case that question comes up....

Yep...tried that one......BUT mine has the port listed as 0378, but when I look in mach it has 0x378. I've tried changing it to just 0378 but it reverts back to 0x378.

Okay....let me add a little more to this....Don't know if it will help.
When I first load the mach softare I get "nothing to feed hold" in the Status bar. It flashes red three times and then stops. I hit reset and it goes away of course. Doesn't come back up again unless I hit the feed hold button. Not sure if that's normal, but it just caught my eye.. I would think the status would be blank since I haven't done anything yet....
Just food for thought....

In the config option make sure you "save settings" after you make the any change.

I just went back through the "Input Signals" again. I don't have anything enable on these:
Cycle Start Port 1 Pin 13 Feedhold Port 1 Pin 15
I can't find the cycle start or feedhold options, but the buttons do seem to work. When I hit then the cycle start button in mach flashes or "nothing to feedhold" shows up in the status bar.....

Dave,
Go to Config/Ports and pins/outputs and "Charge pump " should be green check enabled. port 1, pin 17. Active low should be a red X.
Check that and let us know. If that is set to any other configuration, the XML is not loaded.
What can happen, if you've downloaded Mach 3 a few times. You may have two separate Mach3 folders on your PC and you may be installing the XML to the wrong one. Working with one install and actually running out of another.
Let us know..
Thanks, Ron

Ron, I checked and what you suggested is what I have checked/marked.
I found something this am that might be useful. I thought maybe I had a blown fuse so i took the bed off. I noticed that the drives don't have power. That is the "power" led is not lit. I checked all fuses and they are not blown. Not sure if that helps any but.....

Dave,
The charge pump fires relay 4 on the interface. The relay all the way to the left looking at the front of the machine. That relay energizes the power supply. The drives will not come on until that relay triggers. And port 1 pin 17 controls it.
Are you sure the cable is tight on the machine and PC? Also check where the ribbon cable plugs into the board, make sure it is down tight.
The yellow LED shows that the interface is powered and ready. It takes no Comm from the PC for that to happen.
Will the Reset on the main screen clear? In other words when you click on it does it stop blinking?
When you click the Reset on the main screen you should hear that relay click and the green LED right behind it should come on.
These are usually a communication problem. Parallel port not configured properly, wrong address entered. With the wrong address etc. Some pins on the port can still work, while others will not.
Let's back up a bit, the Port you are connected to on the PC, did you add it? Or was it the OEM port?
Let us know, Ron

Okay...
Try to answer those in order...
Yes the cables are tight...Yes the reset stops blinking.
The led beside the relay...."LED 6" is RED!! At least I feel like I'm narrowing this down. Seems like a comm problem with the port. I did not add this port. And no, when I click the reset button I don't hear the relay. I only hear it when I hit the stop button on the machine itself.
I just checked the ports address again....pc shows 0378-37f.....mach shows on port 1 0x378....

Dave,
The state of the machine when the Estop is pulled out is telling me their is something wrong with the communication., Powering up and the message "Nothing to feedhold" shouldn't be happening. And that you can clear it shouldn't be either. It's as if something is calling for feedhold, then it isn't.
Check the Estop jumper. There is a 2 screw terminal marked EPO. Check and make sure the screws are tight in that and the jumper is not loose.
Let's try this, dump your folder with MAch3 and redownload a fresh copy and reinstall. It's rare but it does happen that an install becomes corrupted.
We've had issues like these and have even sent folks new interfaces, they are typically almost always a PC issue. Do you have another PC you can try?
Let me know, Ron

estop jumper screws are tight.
I tried the mach3 reinstall earlier too. I went ahead and tried again "just in case".
The thought of another computer crossed my mind earlier this am. I have 2 other pc's and of course neither one has a parallel port. The desktop is new and the laptop never had one. I've thought about doing a fresh install of XP on the pc in the garage. Think this is an avenue I should persue or would it be worth the trouble?

When I first got my first romaxx, i had that 'nothing to feedhold' all the time too. it was 2 years ago, so ill be d**ned if i can remember what the problem was in particular... but I tend to think that your problem is upstream of the machine.
are you sure that the parallel plug is in tight at both ends? one time, mine was not in tight at the bottom screw...
make sure that the port #1 has the "port enabled" checkbox ticked.
