Hi: The Z axis on my machine froze up. I removed belt and motor turned fine. I manually tried turning the pulley on the top of the z axis threaded rod. With some moderate coaxing I got it to move. Should I remove the ball screw cover and clean? Or replace? I do lube the acme thread often with a white lithium grease spray. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I think it is the bearings at the top of the acme thread, rahther than the Thompson bearing, that is causing the friction.

In case anyone runs into the same problem. I replace the two top Z-axis sealed bearings and machine is working fine again. The only tricky part was holding the threaded rod from turning while removing the top nut. I made a wooden block (to not damage the threads) with that tightly clamped around the rod and prevented it from turning while removing the top nut.
