I'm still new to CNC, I make parts for RC's and dove into CNC the first of last year and have learned on the way.
I started with the cheapest table I could find that fit my size requirements.
It's a MastersCNC table made from HDPE. It was cheap and came with lots of issues, but overall has served me well.
But now I'm looking at something that is a bit more accurate and dependable.
I mainly cut Delrin and every blue moon some 1/8" aluminum sheet. The delrin I get comes in 12x24 sheets so the dims of the HS-1 seem to be perfect since I rarely cut past 16"s.
I'm also looking at the KT1425, but I'm hesitant because of the unsupported x/y. I'm not trying to start a bash K2 thing just being honest about what I'm looking at.
My main questions about the HS-1 are:
What do I need to actually get cutting, I know I need a spindle, but do I need a mount, all the pics show it with a mount attached, so I thought I'd check first.
Does anyone know if the MDF will warp in weather changes. I use DS tape to mount a spoiler board and cut through the material every time, so I would just mount some stock plastic to the top of the MDF. But I live in houston and humidity changes a lot here.
What controllers and motors does the HS-1 come with?
How is the cleaning of this machine, Delrin is very messy, sends shavings all over the place, the machine I have now has no problem pushing the shavings aside. I'd prefer to clean up afterwards than have a vacuum running the entire time.
Ok currently a couple issues I have with my machine and I'm yet to work it out are:
My .125" holes always come out slightly larger or sometimes oval. I have tried many things and have gotten them really close. But I have determined that the table top was warping with weather (plywood) and the router mount was a bit loose on the bearings. So I'd like a router that I know can be accurate with tweaking and maintenance, not rebuilding and redesigning.
When I make multiple passes there is a line where each pass ends, sometimes very noticeable. I'm figuring this is normal to an extent and I need a finishing pass. The problem with my machine is the amount or thickness of the line is not consistent.
So again I'm hoping to find a machine that will deal with these issues better.
Any advice and or suggestions would be great.
