I was hoping to use this machine in conjunction with my laptop pc. If I go with the open loop system can I connect the router table to my laptop or will I need a full size pc?
Also with the closed loop system, is a full size pc required or can I use a laptop?

Hello,
Laptops are generally not good candidates for CNC control. They are a bit protective of their system timing with regard to battery save features etc. Mach3 has a driver test utility in the main folder. Run a driver test and see what how it looks. Should be pretty much a flat line with an occasional but albeit small spike of a few uS.
The Romaxx presently works with real parallel ports only. No USB to Parport converters. The closed loop system needs two real parallel ports.
Having said all that, we have customers that use laptops and have no issues whatsoever.
Just a good desktop PC with as little as possible installed in the background is generally the best route to go. A dedicated PC for the task. Some programs like Quick time movie player have been known to mess with Mach3 in the past. Programs that autoboot and search for updates etc.
Anything disrupting Mach3 though is a rather rare happening these days. It sets itself as a very high priority with the OS.
Thanks, Ron
